Objectives: This study investigated the effects of the relationship of family experience variables on, marriage motive and marital values, and the gender differences of these effects, among college students, along with the moderating effect of gender in the relationship of marriage motive and marital values among college students.
Methods: The participants of this study were 154 male and 166 female college students. Data were collected through a self-report questionnaire.
Results: First, the study found significant differences in the recognition of motivation for marriage and marital values across genders. Second, marriage motives and marital values of male and female college students were found to be correlated with family experience variables. Third, gender had a moderating effect on motivation for marriage, conservative-instrumental marriage values, and passive-exclusive marriage values.
Conclusions: Based on the results of this study, recommendations for counseling programs, family education, and future research are presented.
